The Carolinas Golf Foundation (CGF) was formed by the Carolinas Golf Association in 1977 to provide support for a variety of Carolinas-based golf initiatives. The Carolinas Golf Association and the Carolinas Golf Foundation are both 501(c)3 non-profit educational organizations. Some of the areas that the CGF provides funding to include:
Scholarships
The foundation's scholarship program supports students who are aspiring to become golf superintendents and turfgrass managers in the Carolinas. The Carolinas Golf Foundation underwrites grants to turfgrass majors at Clemson University and North Carolina State University. Individual grants varied in value up to $2,000. Charles E. Lynch Jr., CGA Counsel, noted, "This year's winners are the men and women who will direct tomorrow's turf programs. They will discover solutions for future turfgrass problems. We are pleased to participate in endowing this ongoing program." The Carolinas Golf Foundation first offered scholarship aid to turfgrass majors in 1977.
Turfgrass Research Projects
The Carolinas Golf Foundation also concentrates research grant aid at Clemson University and North Carolina State University. Studies at Clemson have focused on the development of new grasses to be used in the grass transition zone, which covers the Carolinas. The Foundation recently sponsored a two-year study by Dr. Bruce Martin at Clemson University. Dr. Martin studied the effects of various soils on two different and new kinds of Bermudagrasses -- TifEagle and Miniverdi. His goal is to provide Carolinas courses with the best soil and fertilizer management practices for these grasses to combat the hot, arid summers and continued water quality issues.
Player Development
The foundation has donated over $250,000 to various junior golf programs including over nine Carolinas First-Tee programs, several city-wide developmental programs, the South Carolina Junior Golf Association, the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association, and many other start-up initiatives.

How the CGF is funded
The Carolinas Golf Foundation for years has been funded principally by the Carolinas Golf Association and by contributions from individual golfers. Donations are used to support and promote junior golf, women's golf, turfgrass research and management, disable golfers and many other worthwhile Carolinas projects. According to Internal Revenue Service regulations, the Foundation must generate at least 10 percent of its receipts from golfers who want to give back something to our game.

How You Can Help
All contributions to the Carolinas Golf Foundation are tax deductible and go directly to various Carolinas programs. The CGA absorbs administrative costs of the Foundation.
